This week Storybrooke must have been fan girl week as they
devoted the entire episode to Captain Hook and his internal struggle with his
love for Emma. Now am I the only one
that isn’t turned on by the home wrecker?
I mean, really? He ran off with
rumples wife leaving his son motherless, and then falls for Emma, Balefire’s
true love, and despite his fancy for taken women the number of fan girls and
shippers are alarming.
This week’s episode was more of a trudge really as we see
the return of Ariel and through her we get a small glimpse into the missing
year through the only man who remembers, Hook.
It would appear that he spent the year trying to forget Emma… awe, and
had become a highway man as his ship seems to have gone missing. Without woman or ship, he appears to us a
drift in a sea of comrades, it’s not like they don’t care… they did buy him a
whore. Still Hook, has lost his identity
as a fierce pirate, the good in him begs him to become a hero and without an
anchor he feels torn and strewn upon strange tides. What kind of evil pirate can he be without
even a ship?! And what has become of the
Jolly Rodger anyway? I mean a ship that
size would take an awful lot to conceal, even in the enchanted forest. Thankfully, for this forlorn, ship less, sailor
Ariel comes crashing (quite literally) into his life with a clue.
So after Pan was defeated and everyone returned to the
enchanted forest so that Emma could get a new start with Henry, Ariel somehow
lost her prince. They must be really
easy to misplace is that world. In her
travels she came across a crew man of Eric’s who told her that the Captain of
the Jolly Rodger had taken them hostage and that he had only escaped with the help
of a stole dagger that he relinquished as the sole clue to this mystery. Now, Hook is the Captain, however Hook doesn’t
have Eric so who does? Black Beard,
because we need more one hit characters on this show, I was kind of hoping for
Sparrow. Any way you slice it, Ariel has
a lead on the location of the Jolly Rodger and Hook’s salvation of his rouge
pirate life, even though that may not be who he is anymore.
In our world, or Storybrooke, Ariel has washed up on the
beach and everyone is turning to Hook for answers, because he supposedly
remembers, although he’s always vague on his memories. I’m getting the feeling this is incredibly
forced because he flat out lies about knowing Ariel or what’s become of Eric. Instead he decides to lead them all on a bit
of a goose chase or cloak chase as they spread locator potion on Eric’s cloak
that had been stored at Mr. Gold’s. Oh
yeah, by the way, while all of this is happening Regina is training Emma in
magic and Charming fails to teach Henry to drive…
So where is Eric? Well, when the group finally catches up with
Black Beard in the enchanted forest, it is revealed that he is being held
ransom on a random island that only Black Beard knows of. And what, pray tell, is the ransom? How about the captaincy of the Jolly Rodger,
something that Hook just cannot give up now that he is so close to getting his
life back, or at least what used to be his life. Now, we have all see the goodness in Hook and
Ariel pleads with him to show it and to spare Black Beard so that she can find
her prince. Unfortunately, when Hook
hurts, he kind of wants everyone around him to hurt, and with that he plunges
Black Beard into the shark infested waters below.
In Storybrooke, the cloak leads to the water and the assumed
watery grave of Eric. There are no words
to comfort Ariel save the truth as Hook desperately tries for redemption. In an attempt at swearing his apology he
swears on the name of his true love, Emma.
Why don’t they understand the powers of a name? Well turns out Ariel actually is the wicked
witch in disguise, shocker there… What
is tragic? This time she has torn
someone’s world asunder as she curses Hook’s kiss. Now when he kisses his true love he will
strip her of all power. Sounds easy
enough to avoid right? Well not with the
witch threating to kill Emma’s child and parents if he doesn’t. So all you Hook/Emma fans… What now?!
